Tewksbury Fire Department Open House

Sophia has been learning about fire safety at school this week.  Sunday we went to the fire station to for an open house.  The girls had pizza in the fire house, explored fire trucks, watched firefighters use the jaws of life on a car, and used a fire hose! 

Serafin had a great time at the event.  She used the hose, ate pizza, and used her pink fire helmet to collect rocks.  She did really awesome in the Smoke House.  As the room was filled with smoke she stayed low to the ground and climbed out a window and down a ladder.  I was a little worried she would be too afraid to go outside to the firefighter, but she did a great job of following directions.

As part of fire safety week Sophia had firefighters visit her classroom on Wednesday.  She was so excited to see the same firefighter at the station on Sunday.  Sophia insisted that we get a picture of them together. 
She really wanted to "drive" the fire engine, but we weren't allowed to sit in the driver seat.  Sophia got her chance to get behind the wheel today at the Market.  Lowell Engine 11 was outside and invited her to check it out.  I really need to remember to bring my camera to the market from now on.
