The plan was to clean out the van on Monday. Cleaning the van is a lot like doing the laundry. It never really seems to get done. There doesn't seem to be a finish line with cleaning the car. There was a time, before kids, that a simple trip to the detailer lasted an entire season and the car seemed brand new again. As soon as it's vacuumed, dusted, and picked up; I have to reload it with book bags, park toys, and "go" bags.
Regardless, the futile fight continues... It was a hot muggy day. The girls got buckets of ice and water bottles to keep them busy. I had trash bags, dust rags, and the vacuum ready to go. The first order of business was to take everything out of the car and do a really good job vacuuming the sand and snack crumbs that have accumulated over the past two weeks. Car sets out. Picnic Blankets out. Go Bags Out. Out in the muggy sunny day getting some fresh air.... and RAIN. Almost on command the clouds released buckets of water on me, the kids, and all the stuff from my car. I grabbed what I could and just threw it in the house. The kids jumped in the van to ride out the storm. What's that they say about the best laid plans? Regardless, there is something nice about summer rain storms. Maybe it's that it only last five minutes... Or maybe it's because it gives you a break from cleaning the car.
Yes, Rain storms really only last a few minutes here. We got back to cleaning the car and then had a chance to make some Birthday Pancakes for our neighbor Megan's Birthday. The recipe came from Everyday with Rachel Ray magazine. It's simply cake mix cooked like pancakes instead of baked in the oven. An excellent option when you don't want to turn on your oven. And believe me, you don't want your oven on during the summer in New England. Sophia did most of work and loves being in the kitchen. She delivered the pancakes after we had a nice stack of cake. Sophia had a great time making the cake, enjoyed delivery them to Megan, and an even better time eating her own stack of Birthday Pancakes.
